Retail health centers – medical clinics located in retail stores and pharmacies – treat individuals with minor conditions, such as mild headaches, colds and seasonal allergies. Many retail health centers are staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants who also administer vaccinations.

Both MinuteClinic® at select CVS/pharmacy locations and Healthcare Clinics at select Walgreens locations participate with Horizon BCBSNJ.

When receiving care at a retail health center:

  • A referral is not required. Just show your Horizon BCBSNJ member ID card.
  • Your copayment will be the specialist copayment amount shown on your ID card.
  • With your consent, the nurse practitioner will share information about your visit with your Primary Care Physician (PCP).

A retail health center is not an alternative to your PCP or primary doctor. Annual physicals and well exams are not covered at retail health centers.

Lab services must still be coordinated with LabCorp®. If the retail health center practitioner recommends lab work, such as a confirmatory strep test, they will perform the test and send it to LabCorp with the necessary paperwork. Retail health centers do not specifically recommend any blood work, but may recommend you see your PCP for additional assessment or treatment plans.

Use the Online Doctor & Hospital Finder to find a participating retail health center near you.
